It should come as no surprise that after seventeen years of Belly Dancing, fourteen years of teaching and six years of owning Harmony Dance Studio that things are about to change. Well that's not true, things are always changing, yes?! Well they are for me, sometimes I see it and feel it all happening and sometimes things change and it simply takes 'Me' time to catch up. On October 4, 2009, the Shimmies for a Cure gang will once again don their pinkest outfits and walk, shimmy or run the 5 km course for the Run for the Cure to raise money in support of breast cancer research. According to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, "breast cancer will affect 1 in 9 women during their lifetimes and in 2009, an estimated 5,400 women and 50 men will die from breast cancer in Canada." May not seem like a lot but it's still 5450 people too many. Read

Nationally, over $26.5 million was raised in this year's Run for the Cure Campaign. The Victoria run site raised $485,000 on run day and had 5100 people participate despite the cool, misty day. The Shimmies for the Cure team consisted of 19 team members, all of whom have taken some form of bellydance class or workshop at one time or another (even my mom).
